As the weather improves and the touring season approaches, spring is the perfect time to get your caravan checked, cleaned and ready for the road. Even if it was left in good condition at the end of last season, a few careful checks now can help avoid issues later.
Start with the exterior. Give the caravan a proper wash and inspect the bodywork, windows, roof lights and seals. Look out for any signs of damage, cracks or wear that may have developed over winter. Tyres should be checked for condition, age and pressure, even if the tread still looks fine.
Inside, open everything up and let the caravan air out. Check for any signs of damp or musty smells, especially around corners, lockers and window areas. Test the lights, sockets and appliances, and make sure the water system is running properly. It is much better to discover a problem on the driveway than on your first trip away.
This is also a good time to review what is inside the caravan. Remove anything you no longer use and top up the essentials you do. Gas, hook-up leads, towing mirrors, levelling aids and basic kitchen equipment are all worth checking before the season begins.
If you have not used the caravan for a while, it is worth thinking through the full journey from hitching up to pitching on site. Sometimes the simple things are the easiest to forget.
A little preparation goes a long way. Spring checks help keep your caravan safe, comfortable and ready for the adventures ahead. Starting the season well usually means enjoying it more from the very first trip.
